Bio

Joedy Gardner enters his ninth year as the Head Basketball Coach at Fairmont Preparatory Academy. Growing up in a basketball family, Joedy was heavily influenced by his father, Joseph Gardner, who played alongside Hall of Famer Jerry West at West Virginia University when they were ranked the No. 1 college team in the nation in 1957. His father went on to coach successfully at all levels for more than 35 years, making basketball a natural part of Joedy’s life.

Gardner served as captain of the 49ers basketball team at California State University, Long Beach in 1983 and 1984, under legendary coach Tex Winter. He holds multiple school records, including career leading scorer, and earned Academic All-American honors. He graduated with a degree in Business Management and Accounting before being selected by the Houston Rockets in the 1984 NBA Draft. Joedy played professionally for six years in both the U.S. and Europe.

As Fairmont’s Head Coach, Gardner’s program is built on the core values of Commitment, Discipline, Integrity, and Teamwork. He emphasizes representing Fairmont Prep with character, loyalty, strong academics, and athletic excellence. Gardner believes that winning traditions stem from consistent preparation and adherence to strong values—principles he teaches as essential in both athletics and life. His teams are known for their enthusiasm, discipline, and pride.

Gardner brings extensive coaching experience across multiple levels of basketball. He is the founder and president of Team Works Next Level Training & Mentoring, a program that serves NBA players, international athletes, and college and high school players. Notable clients include Tyson Chandler, Josh Childress, Sean Marks, Kevin Love, Brandon Jennings, Chase Budinger, Klay Thompson, and Taj Gibson. Eighteen of his former players currently compete in the NBA.

Joedy is married to Sheri Lynn Gardner, and together they have three children: Joshua Jerome (42), who serves in the U.S. Air Force Pararescue Division; Amanda Leigh (33), the Head Softball Coach at Miami University in Ohio; and Melissa Lynn (30), a singer-songwriter based in Nashville.
